About Spoken Words

You don't have to believe it to share it.

Have you ever heard a song, read a story or come across a question that stayed with you?

Perhaps it made you think. Perhaps you weren't sure what to make of it.

But something about it was worth sharing.

And you passed it on.

Not because you necessarily agreed with everything it said, but because you thought somebody else might find it interesting too.

That's part of the idea behind Spoken Words.

A conversation worth having

Spoken Words is an independent Christian initiative offering freely available music, stories, conversations and resources that explore some of life's bigger questions.

Questions about meaning, purpose, faith, God and the person of Jesus Christ.

We believe the Gospel is good news worth sharing.

But we also recognise that not everybody believes it. Some people are curious. Some have doubts. Others have never really considered Christianity at all.
And that's fine.

You don't need to believe something before you can ask questions about it, explore it or find something in it that resonates with you.

Sharing is for everyone

If you hear a song that moves you, why shouldn't you share it?

If you discover a question that makes you think, why shouldn't you pass it on?

And if a story offers a different perspective, perhaps somebody else might appreciate it too.

You don't have to be a Christian to share something about Christianity.

You don't have to explain it, defend it or persuade anyone.

You can simply say, "I came across this. What do you think?"

And that might be the beginning of a conversation.

The person receiving it might agree, disagree, ask another question or share it with somebody else.

There's no prescribed journey and no expected response.

Something to take away

Spoken Words is also about equipping others.

Individuals, churches, Christian groups and communities are welcome to explore the resources and use them in their own settings.

A song might find its way into a church service or a conversation between friends.

A story might be shared in a small group.

A question might begin a conversation in a café, a community centre or somewhere completely unexpected.

The resources are made available to encourage those possibilities, not to prescribe how they should happen.

We hope they'll be useful, freely shared and of benefit to others.

Come and see

At the heart of Spoken Words is a simple Christian invitation.

Not a demand to believe something before you've had the opportunity to explore it.

Not a list of things you must do to earn God's acceptance.

But an opportunity to consider what Christianity says God has already done through Jesus Christ.

Sometimes that journey might begin with looking at the world around us. Sometimes with a song, a story or a question.

And sometimes with the discovery that the Christian message isn't primarily about what we can do for God, but what God has done for us.

It's an invitation expressed in three simple words from Jesus:

"Come and see."  -  John 1:39

Whether you believe, doubt or are simply curious, you're welcome to explore.

And if you find something worth sharing, why not pass it on?

You don't have to believe it to share it.

Come and see.
