SPOKEN WORDS
Our Beliefs
Faith, Life and the Invitation to Explore
Spoken Words is a Christian initiative rooted in the belief that our existence has meaning, that human life has purpose, and that the deepest questions we ask about ourselves and the world deserve thoughtful exploration.
We believe in one God, the Creator of all things, who has revealed Himself through creation, through the Scriptures and most fully through Jesus Christ.
We believe that every human being is created in God's image, with inherent dignity, worth and the capacity to love, reason, question and make choices.
Yet we also recognise the reality of the human condition. Despite our remarkable abilities, knowledge and achievements, we continue to struggle with selfishness, injustice, suffering and our failure to live according to what we know is right.
The Bible describes this brokenness as sin, something that affects all humanity, without exception.
Jesus Christ - At the Centre
We believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God, who entered our world not simply to teach us how to live, but to reconcile us to God.
Through His life, teachings, death and resurrection, Jesus revealed both the seriousness of our human condition and the extraordinary depth of God's love.
We believe that forgiveness, reconciliation and eternal life are offered through Jesus Christ, not as rewards for human achievement, but as gifts of God's grace.
At the heart of Christianity is not what humanity can accomplish for God, but what God has done for humanity.
Faith That Changes How We Live
We believe that Christian faith is more than intellectual agreement or religious observance.
It involves a transformation of the heart, expressed through love, humility, honesty, forgiveness, compassion and responsibility towards others.
The teachings of Jesus, particularly the Sermon on the Mount, challenge us to examine not only our actions but also our motives, attitudes and relationships.
We believe that faith should be visible in how we treat one another, especially those who are overlooked, marginalised or suffering.
The Bible and the Freedom to Explore
We believe that the Bible is God's inspired Word and the foundation of Christian faith.
We also recognise that people approach questions of faith from different backgrounds, experiences and convictions.
We welcome honest questions, thoughtful disagreement and genuine exploration.
Faith cannot be forced, and meaningful belief should never depend upon pressure or manipulation.
We believe that truth is worth seeking and that questions can be part of the journey towards understanding.
Our Shared Humanity
We believe that every person has value, regardless of their background, circumstances, beliefs or past actions.
No individual is beyond the possibility of forgiveness, change or a new beginning.
We recognise that humanity shares both extraordinary potential and profound moral weakness.
The Christian message offers hope not because human beings are capable of perfecting themselves, but because God offers grace, redemption and the possibility of transformation.
Hope Beyond Ourselves
We believe that the resurrection of Jesus Christ offers a hope that reaches beyond the limitations of human life and death.
Christian hope is not simply optimism about the future. It rests upon the promises of God and the belief that evil, suffering and death will not have the final word.
We believe that God's purposes extend beyond individual salvation to the restoration of creation and the fulfilment of His kingdom.
Come and See
Spoken Words exists to make the Christian message accessible through music, storytelling, reflection and conversation.
We do not expect everyone who encounters our resources to share our beliefs.
Our invitation is simply to explore them.
To listen.
To question.
To consider.
And perhaps to discover something that changes the way we understand ourselves, one another and the world around us.
When two people approached Jesus, wanting to know more, His response was remarkably simple:
“ Come and see ” - John 1:39
That invitation remains at the heart of Spoken Words.
What are we really looking for?
