The Music Behind the Words
These songs began not as songs, but as ideas and words written for The Ordering Principle, and later developed into a sermon intended to invite people to consider a simple question: what if there really is a God behind the order we see in reality? The lyrics explore that journey from recognising the order, structure and laws within the world around us, to looking honestly at ourselves and recognising our need for something greater than ourselves. From there, the message leads to Jesus Christ, not as an abstract religious idea, but as the answer to the problem of human brokenness, guilt and separation from God. The music is simply another way of carrying those words beyond the page. These are not intended to be masterpieces or performances by professional singers, but honest attempts to turn ideas, faith and a message I care deeply about into something people can listen to, reflect upon and, hopefully, come and see for themselves.

Everywhere the laws begin.
Gravity holds us to the pavement,
Earth keeps turning in its way,

There is a Mind behind the way.

There is a Law that will never change.
There is a Maker, there is a Mind,
The One who gave us breath and life.
But when I look into my heart,
I see the things I've done and said.
I cannot pay, I cannot hide,
I stand before the Judge instead.
Have I lied? Have I stolen?
Have I hated in my heart?
Have I chased my own ambition,
Turned from God and played my part?
Money, pleasure, pride and status,
Building kingdoms of our own,
While the One who gave us breathing
Waits for hearts to come back home.
When I measure my life against
His perfect law,
I cannot claim that I have won.
I have nothing left to offer,
I am bankrupt before the One.
There is an Order, there is a Way,
There is a Law that will never change.
There is a Maker, there is a Mind,

God Himself came through.
Two thousand years ago,
He sent His Son for you.
Jesus lived the life we couldn't,
Perfect underneath the law.
Then He took our debt upon Him,
Paid the price we couldn't afford.
On the cross He bore our judgment,
Took the consequence we earned.
Then He rose up from the grave,
And death itself was overturned.
Now the debt is not our ending,
Mercy calls us by our name.
We can leave the road of darkness,
We can walk into the flame.
There is an Order, there is a Way,
There is a mercy for us today.
There is a Saviour, there is a King,
The One who makes the broken sing.
You don't have to carry your shame,
You don't have to live in fear.
Jesus Christ has paid the ransom,
And His peace is waiting here.
